Agree. Absolutely DOA. I remember going to see Avatar in 3D and the only 3D bit I can remember was someone drifting down a corridor, a scene that had virtually nothing to do with the story. And where is 3D cinema now? It's a gimmick.

The Miller Lite Meta Bar example highlights the problem exactly. As you say, the beer looks ridiculous. They've overlooked how time consuming it is to make compelling 3D content. It's a bar, so not kid friendly, but Miller Lite? The least edgy alcoholic beverage in the known universe?

While the Metaverse might be DOA, the metaverse is already here and it's hybrid. 3D games mixed with Twitch and Youtube and Spotify. As things evolve people will just swap in one component for another. The computers are so powerful now that they do all this effortlessly.

Finally, the cool factor. If Facebook is uncool now (even too uncool for Sheryl Sandberg) imagine where it's going to be in ten years time.
