An interesting analysis but I don’t think it translates well into the Australian cultural landscape we’re self deprecating humour is often used as a welcoming mechanism, ie. I don’t think l’m better than you, you are welcome here. It is something confident and kind people do. A culture where it is used as a signal of interpersonal competition sounds somewhat unpleasant.
