As Allan Mills notes, the private/public space distinction is crucial. Whether it’s police dogs attacking civil rights protesters, self immolating monks, Stonewall protesters getting bashed or napalm atrocities, it’s essential that a public record can be made.

Is a school a public or private space? There is currently an epidemic of the daily “documentation” of children in schools where parents are expected to give blanket permission for this invasion of privacy. The child has no say in the matter and is expected to do what the teacher tells them to do.
