Because of my unusual surname, people tend to remember me. I started this new job and the boss, who I hadn’t met yet came racing out like I was a long, lost friend. “We went to primary school together”. Which seemed odd in Tasmania, given I went to primary school in Melbourne.

At first, I had no idea who he was. After a few days of the cog’s turning I knew exactly who his was. He used to be Bill and now he was William. It was a little bizarre.
