Excellent roundup of the past few decades. The fact that the current landscape doesn’t work especially well for artists will mean they’re out there giving this some serious thought as we speak.

Like so much in the digital age, having access to “everything” leads to a more superficial interaction. Which is why vinyl and books will survive as they offer a deep, unmediated (no metrics, opinions or ads) experience.
