Has the review become less valuable because the listener has so much less to lose? With the advent of streaming, the cost of listening to a new release has collapsed. In a context where the listener can listen along while reading the review, it does become more of an opinion, a discussion. To say the internet has opened the floodgates of opinion would be an understatement, with “review culture” seeing anything less than a five star review as an insult. For better or worse, the context has changed, yet a considered voice in a sea of noise makers remains valuable.
