I think Iain M Banks did a good job at the impossibly weird. I don’t think it helps when Hollywood keeps churning out Marvel movies and taking on something like Dune is presented as risky.

I also think a lot of AI is anti-weird as it relies on parsing existing works. I guess you’re right then, it’s over to the humans again to bring the weirdness.
