I think writing is confusing for a lot of people. We’re surrounded by words everyday and isn’t writing just a bunch of words? I think songs, which are a little more abstract can get the point across. If you’re going to write a song that everyone loves, you must love it first. If you don’t love it, you’ve already failed the everyone test. Once you do love it, it’s ready for the listener. In the case of writing, it’s ready for the reader. At that point, other writers are irrelevant.

Even the cook must eat.
