I went not drinking before work days many years ago. I don’t stick to it religiously, but mostly I do. Why exactly, I’m not sure but in the restaurant it was definitely no drinking on the job and by midnight you want bed, not drinks.

Moving to Tasmania, I mostly stuck with that, too. Over 50, cutting it out does not effect your weight, but even moderate drinking on the weekends sends it in the other direction, beer especially, which I hardly drink now.

A few things happen. I’ve acquired more expensive tastes and I enjoy it more when I do drink. The less you drink, the more of a two pot screamer you become (sorry, had to work that in somewhere)

Also, nearing 60, looking at my contemporaries who haven’t eased off, you can see it’s taking a toll, both mentally and physically.
