It’s funny that in the digital age we can pour any information we like into our brains, yet the opportunity for physical release has been truncated. When it is, we get the gymnasium, a temple of stylised torture machines demanding strict regimes. It feels like our bodies are more constrained, thus the inhibitions against any movement that is too free form are increased.
Folk dances like the Tarantella might superficial be about driving out the poison, but I think most just take the opportunity for release.
What the world needs now is more dance floors. I’m sure Emma would agree.
