I've just acquired a crate of records from my father in law. Mostly classical except for Soft Parade and Absolutely Live. I'm really puzzled as to what they're doing in there.

I definitely knew Riders on the Storm before I knew who the Doors were. As you say, got a lot of airplay. I'm not surprised. Palatable to the easy listening crowd, while totally spaced out to anyone willing to dig beneath the surface. The whole album takes on a added quality when heard driving around in the car.

I can vaguely recall sitting in the back of my parents car hoping they didn't turn it off or make some comment about what garbage music it was. Something my dad routinely did with Bowie and the Stones.
