Journeys have a habit of taking an unexpected detour and it looks like Medium is no exception.

Having made friends with you kasey has made my time on Medium so much richer than I would have ever expected. The sense of a fellow traveller on the road to who knows where is both exciting and encouraging. Hopefully we will get to meet IRL one day!

As for the earning, this has always been a challenge for creative people. I don't think many, if any of us, are going to get rich off of Medium, but as far as the creative economy goes, it's a step in the right direction. Even if it's just at the philosophical level that digital creators deserve to get paid.

This is where community is so important, how do we build our opportunities beyond Medium? I think we all know that's the case when we see a story start to do well and it's often because there is a very big chunk of "external" reads. There is an audience there, but it doesn't directly translate into earnings on Medium.

In a soulless world, having somewhere that provides respite and a nurturing environment is priceless.
