Lot's of great points in here Gary, and I totally agree with the focus on energy (Universal Basic Energy?). As you say, it goes some way to undermining "financialisation" and hoarding.

Australia isn't so different either. The slightest sacrifice is met with howls of "the end of our way of life".

I guess our extinction will be the ultimate "cutting off your nose to spite your face."
