My wife and I often joke (I know, not very funny) that capitalism loves divorce. Two toasters, two kettles, two beds and so on.

Capitalism never creates a problem that doesn’t require a consumerist solution. Rather than nurturing our emotional well being, it is constantly undermining it.

Just today we were talking about how the bookstores are vanishing and gyms are opening everywhere. As you say, a solution to a problem we’d rather not have.
