Not so. You yourself hit the nail on the head when you said "abstract faculty lounge concepts". Just because a bunch of insecure college students have got more time on their hands to make a lot of noise doesn't make them right.

I've grown up around artists, musicians and designers and I can assure you that they are predominantly left leaning, strong individuals and they have a strong sense of community.

Many of them are from marginalised groups and if they're not, they're at least victims of "Get A Real Job TM" from mainstream society. Does this stop them? No.

As any artist will tell you, the art doesn't make itself. Yes, the community helps the artist make the art, but still, the art is the lifeblood of the community. Individuality is expected of the artist. The group is meaningless without it.

That the Right gets to present "I'm just gonna do whatever I like" as some sort of individuality instead of an admission ticket to the Moron Collective (communists!) is part of the problem.
