Sadly reminiscent of what is happening in Australia. I agree with your approach, putting boundaries around this nonsense and drawing things back to what you have in common. Older people, particularly those used to traditional media, are getting bombarded with this stuff and silence is often the first step on the path to coming to terms with it.
