A SEVENTIES ROCK REDUX
Seven Unexpected Guest Vocalists
Things were different in the Seventies. When we first heard a song, it was usually on the radio.
Today, we take for granted how much meta data surrounds the music we listen to. Guest appearances by artists have now become a key element in the marketing of music.
In the Seventies, we were lucky if the deejay managed to back announce all the songs. Including more information than the song title and artist was rare.
So here are seven songs I grew up with. Songs I was familiar with, songs I loved, yet didn’t discover who else was singing on the track until later.
Stevie Nicks on John Stewart’s ‘Gold’
This song, more than the others here, reflects the radio experience. Gold got played on the radio a lot. I knew the song backwards before I even knew who the artist was.
Today, hearing a song without ready access to who the artist is, is unusual.
Undoubtedly, a hardened Fleetwood Mac fan would have spotted the Stevie Nicks vocal instantly.
