So this ain’t Christmas…

In 1963 the Beatles toured Australia. As far as Australian culture goes it was probably the most exciting thing to happen in Australia since Captain Cook landed. OK, maybe the Eureka Stockage. Did I mention my relatives were there?

My relatives were also there when the Beatles hit Melbourne. Well, my Auntie Betty at least. Of course the press were out in force roaming the streets for any angle they could muster. They were stopping random teenage girls asking them inane questions like:

“So, who would you say is the least known member of the Beatles?”

“Well, it’s not Ringo. And I don’t think it’s John or Paul. Who’s the other one?”

I think it’s fair to say that George’s position as the outlier in the band started early.

As you may have noticed, the Christmas song lists are making the rounds on Medium at the moment. You may have also noticed that George Harrison is not on any of these lists.

Why might that be?

George didn’t write a Christmas song, he wrote a New Year’s Song which I have conveniently posted at the top of this article. Fortunately, the New Year is close enough to Christmas that…
