So “user-centric” is ultimately more ethical and less prone to manipulation, and I believe it is the system Medium itself uses. Have any of the streaming platforms given any concrete explanation as to why they don’t use “user-centric”? From a developer’s perspective I imagine “user-centric” is much harder to implement as you have to aggregate at the end of subscription period to do the “user-centric” division (and subscriptions don’t neatly start at the beginning of the month, so that won’t help payment cycles). Not a big deal for 10,000 users, but 100 million, maybe. Play totals are a much simpler running tally.
