Star Trek has always been a reflection of America's hopes, fears and culture. Homelessness, which remains an intractable problem in Australia also, continues to struggle to find the political will to enact the obvious solution: social housing.

I'm working on my own Star Trek piece on a different episode that might offer some clues to the problem, but perhaps not the solution.
