The 1975 Back To School Playlist

Countdown to Eternity

I’m the only one who’s not blurry. IRL it would prove to be the opposite. Unintentionally going for a John Lennon vibe with the hair and a Rubber Soul vibe with the pic. Digital Art by the Author.

I can’t remember whether it was 1974 or 1975, yet I can remember the place.

I was sitting at the main door of the school with my friend Stuart. We were on morning hallway duty. This didn’t involve much, just making sure students weren’t trying to get in before the bell rang.

Growing up in Australia in the Seventies, the music world revolved around a single TV show that ran for an hour at 6pm every Sunday night.

That show?

Countdown.

With not much to do, Stuart and I were discussing the highlights of the previous night’s episode. It’s the first time in my life I can recall discussing music with anyone.

We’d both come to the same conclusion. Suzi Quatro was cool.

So rather than choosing my current favourite tracks from the year, these are the ten songs that would have been on the back to school playlist for ten year old me.

Devil Gate Drive – Suzi Quatro

Yeh, she’s still cool.
