The Chinese Chainsaw! My father-in-law gave me a chainsaw. It had a snazzy American brand name which I later discovered had been bought by a Chinese company. The ignition coil failed, common with chainsaws that don't get used regularly.

The local chainsaw guy changed me $20 to tell me it was unfixable.

On a whim, I bought a generic ignition coil from China for $6. It worked.

Ultimately, we as consumers must reject proprietary technology that has abandoned any pretence of quality over predation.
