The Saturn Return: 1939/1967/1995/2023
Beliefs, crutches, coincidence and cause.
On my 28th birthday I remember sitting down to dinner on Toorak Rd with a group of friends.
One of my friends was making a noise that sounded like the Twilight Zone theme until I looked at her.
“Ahhh, The Saturn Return!”
It was not an expression I had ever heard before. That would be explained by my complete lack of interest in astrology.
The basic premise of the Saturn Return is that Saturn has returned to the same place where it was when you were born, so it is perceived as a sort of rebirth. A moment at which to set your life on a new trajectory or to leave your life stuck on the same trajectory for the next 28 years.
I’m sure some astrology wonk will point out that that is a gross over simplification. Still.
If you believe in astrology it is likely that you see the Saturn Return as a causal influence on your life. Yet, not being a believer myself, I could sense a certain wisdom in it. Even thought the “science” behind it wasn’t particularly sound, it did coincide with a reality one faces when they turn 28.
