This is entirely reasonable. Not sure about the US, but in Australia there are many ways to improve your “sitting together” chances. Trying to oust someone who probably planned ahead where you didn’t isn’t fair.
I don’t mind helping out, but that help is mine to offer, not something for people to expectantly demand.
