This reminds me of a class I took in Earthquake Engineering. The lecturer took out a map of earthquake clusters across Australia and asked us to guess what might be causing them. After many wild (and incorrect) guesses from the students, he explained - that's where the people are. More people, more reports of earthquakes.

A friend told me on Fiji, they know when a bad storm is coming and will pack down their houses, and then reassemble them when the storm has passed.
