To hazard a guess, particularly in the West, men are taught to compete at all costs. Winner takes all, everyone else is a "loser". This is, of course, a terrible psychic load on everyone, men included.
So for many man, their perspective is this. "Listen here women, you're on the playing field now. We're just winning, fair and square. What are you complaining about?" Although they don't say it that blatantly.
What can be done? Acknowledging how corrosive this "winner takes all" attitude is, how biased the competition is to begin with and seeking meaningful cultural change.
