What Should I Be Doing Instead?

Slim volumes
Philosophical nodules
Capturing trajectories
To add to my inventory
A page with a picture I mentally dissect
Wondering how the dots will connect

What should I be doing instead?

Oceans away on the tip of my mind
Sorting the deaf away from the blind
Are my hands in an invisible bind?
So easy to be selectively kind

What should I be doing instead?

Listening to birds, inside the roof
They never need to think about proof
Right about now, something is wrong
The music has stopped but I still sing along
The knowledge to know I know nothing at all
And you’re the boss, so I guess it’s your call
Pride helps the fool with standing up tall
Adjust my posture as I walk down the hall
Dressing in cloaks, hiding in profile
Seeing the times when it’s best to be docile
Thinking too long for a short while
Another false start, thrown on the pile
