When you live somewhere like Tasmania which has short and cold winter daylight, everyone I know looks forward to DST with relish. The opportunity for an extra hour in those lovely warm evenings in the garden or by the river after a day at work are priceless. I’ve never looked at the benefits in terms of “energy saving” and as someone who keeps regular sleeping patterns, this seems very much like a sleep specialist seeing everything in terms of sleep. 150+ extra hours in Mother Nature surely has mental health benefits that outweigh a (debatable) one hour disruption to sleep. I actually find fresh air excellent for a good night’s sleep.
